Orange Scones: Basic Ingredients for Preparation

A scone may be termed as a quick bread that is baked in a moderately hot oven, in which the dough sets rapidly to a light brown top. Scones have a light and soft texture inside that is almost similar to a biscuit and closely related to the Scottish flat bread, known as bannock.

The origin of the name of scones is traced back to the place where the Scottish kings were crowned, while some others say it is of a German word sconbrot but whatever the origin is, scones are loved by people all over the world.

In fact, the early recipes indicate that scones were made from different type of oats, initially and were shaped into large circles or triangles. Gradually, the triangles became wedges and are more common today. There are many varieties of scones that are equally good in taste and orange scone is one of them.

Apart from the basic ingredients of scones like the all- purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salted butter and butter milk, to make orange scones, obviously, we need orange pulp and grated orange peel.

As is usual, the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda should be whisked together and in another bowl, orange juice, butter milk and orange peel should be mixed. The wet ingredients should be added with the dry and stirred until it becomes moistened. The mixture should be placed in cookie sheet and baked for twelve to fifteen minutes, until brown. Orange scones are ready and tastes well, when served warm.
